Join me in my efforts to support Lupus Foundation of America - Greater Florida Chapter!
As most of you know, I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2001 after several years of countless, unexplained illnesses. Lupus is an autoimmune disease for which there is no cure. Lupus occurs when your immune system becomes hyperactive and begins to falsely attack healthy body tissue and organs causing damage and inflammation. The symptoms usually begin as vague flu-like aches, fevers, rashes, joint pain, fatigue and those that mimic other diseases. Lupus can cause kidney failure, central nervous system complications, strokes, lung failure, heart disease, vascular problems, blood clots, and miscarriages. To date, no one knows what causes Lupus. Research is making some progress, although, we need to find better treatments while pursuing a cure.
The Lupus Foundation of America, Greater Florida Chapter and LUPUS NOW are sponsoring a walk-a-thon in St. Petersburg, Florida. The event will take place Saturday, June 6, 2009. The proceeds from the walk for the Greater Florida Chapter will directly benefit Florida Lupus patients and their families, support groups, educational seminars, informational materials and Lupus research at the University of Florida. Last year, the walk raised $96,000.00. All monies raised in the Florida walk-a-thon, stay in Florida. Finding a cure is now more important than ever to Jamie and I.
I am asking for your support by sponsoring Jamie, Mallory and I in the walk-a-thon. Your contributions are tax-deductible and go directly to Lupus research and education. Checks can be made payable to Lupus Foundation of America, GFC and mailed to me or you can make an online donation. When we participated in the walk-a-thon in 2008, the Dynamic Duo ½ raised $2,265.00 with generous donations from family and friends. This year we are back as the Dynamic Trio hoping to reach a goal of $2,500.00.
Most committee members, their families and volunteers planning this walk have been affected by Lupus. We all thank you for your consideration of this request for your donation.
